Play-Dough ala Mommy.

Well summer's almost over and NOW I try to do things with the boys.
NEVER AGAIN will I over fill my summer unless its for the kids.

Yesterday we made play-dough. I got the idea from my neighbor Amina, she makes it for her 2 year old since he insists on eating it. I decided to look up a recipe and make some scented play-dough for the boys, with their help of course.

Since I LOVE to bake and have some extracts handy I decided we would get creative.
Z made blue coconut, E made yellow banana, and I made brown gingerbread.
Then I had them label the baggie's, good way to get them writing.

Z is doing great and little E NOT BAD for a little one who hasn't even started school.
Mind you they copied what I pre-wrote for them, well E did at least. Zenon just followed verbal instruction but still, great job guys!

Then they played, played and played some more.
We even packed some up for Nael the little 2 year old Play-dough eater :).
Amina let me know they both loved it, I'm so glad.

Move over "Play-Doh", there's a new mom in town.
And these two LOVED the new smelly stuff.
E mashed a piece of all three kinds together and told me it was pretty and smelled like rainbow.
Pretty imaginative, only a kid could smell rainbow.

Next I purchased some little disposable containers so we can experiment with more play-dough making.
Next I think we'll look for rootbeer extract, wouldn't that be neat?

Play Dough Recipe: ( I broke this down from the original recipe in half)
1 c water
1/2 c salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
2 TBSP veg. oil ( I used olive and when I ran out I used canola)
1 c flour
Extracts of choice
Coloring of choice
In large pot add water, coloring, oil, salt & cream of tartar. Begin to gently heat, when warm add flour and mix well.
If lumpy that's okay just keep stirring.
When the mixture thickens it will start to pull away from the pot and form a ball. That's when you remove it from the heat.
I plopped mine on my counter and let cool. Then kneaded it just to keep it from drying and speed up the cooling process.
Then put in airtight container or baggie.

Root beer... yummmmm. *I* would want to eat it. Now I'm thinking of what would be a good flavor. I'm thinking cinnamon would make a good home-made Christmas gift.
